A PRI Gateway (Primary Rate Interface Gateway) is a device that enables traditional phone systems (PSTN) to connect to VoIP (Voice over IP) networks. This PRI gateway essentially converts PRI lines, which use T1/E1 circuits to support multiple voice channels, into IP packets, allowing organizations to integrate their existing phone infrastructure with newer VoIP technology.
In contrast, a VoIP Gateway is a broader term referring to devices that convert voice calls between IP-based networks and traditional PSTN systems. VoIP gateways can handle various types of interfaces, including analog and digital (such as PRI, BRI, and FXO/FXS ports).
