Rebuilt engines and used engine are not the same thing, despite the fact that many car owners mistake them. Whereas a rebuilt engine has been disassembled, cleaned, and had worn or damaged parts changed before being reassembled, a used engine is usually taken out of a functioning vehicle and sold exactly as is.
